Great Plains College Signs Aboriginal Employment and Workforce Partnership

Great Plains College was pleased to sign an Aboriginal Employment and Workforce Partnership with the Ministry of First Nations and Metis Relations. The agreement acknowledges efforts to have a representative workforce and to provide training to help prepare Aboriginal people to participate in the workforce. The agreement was signed by all regional colleges in a ceremony to be held Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 in Saskatoon.

“Recognizing that First Nations and Metis persons are under-represented in the workforce, Great Plains College looks forward to working with the Ministry of First Nations and Metis Relations to prepare the workplace for the potential to become representative of Aboriginal people,” stated Bruce Probert, Vice-President of Great Plains College. “Further, the College will be working closely with the Ministry and Aboriginal people to participate in a fully representative workforce.”

“From a human resource perspective, this is an important development,” stated Erin Martin, Human Resource Officer. “The program ensures we communicate our job descriptions and list all qualifications for positions available within the Great Plains College region.” “We are also audited to ensure good practices are undertaken, and we agree to continually work with the Ministry to ensure we are collectively working to set a work environment conducive to building and sustaining a representative workforce.”
